Pwllheli Golf Club

Pwllheli Golf Club is a Members club in Pwllheli Gwynedd, the main course is a Links and Parkland type with 18 holes over 6108 yards with a par of 69.

Situated on the south coast of the Lleyn Peninsula Pwllheli Golf Club has unravelled views of Snowdonia over Cardigan Bay. Established in 1900 the original 9 holes along the sand dunes were designed by Tom Morris of Hoylake, and the course was extended to 18 holes in 1909 by the equally eminent James Braid , Pwllheli has often been described as a unique golf course with 9 holes being gentle parkland and 9 holes being a true test of links golf, with a par of 69 and a standard scratch of 70 the course is a good challenge to all handicap levels and an excellent venue for societies. In 1998, in a survey for Golf Monthly magazine by a group of independent golf panellists, amongst them Walker Cup Captain Peter McEvoy, Pwllheli was listed as only one of 7 Welsh golf clubs to appear on the “Top 200 Courses to Play in Britain” – a fact that the Club is proud of., a standard that has been maintained to the present day. Not having a par 5 is an unusual characteristic but be aware that Pwllheli can be tough enough, Golf and travel writer Barry ward describes the par 4 15th as a highlight in a gem of a course and includes it and the par 3 10th in his ion of the best 18 holes in Wales A visit to this hidden gem is a must, whether just as an individual or as a society an enjoyable round of golf is guaranteed.
